Phase III
Phase III is the most comprehensive phase of clinical testing. During this stage, six hundred to three thousand patients with the disease are enrolled in a study designed to further test the effectiveness of the drug and monitor side effects. This process takes three to five years to complete. From here the drug is submitted to the FDA for approval. Approximately sixty percent of drugs that make it to Phase III testing go on to receive FDA approval.
